Mijn fiets gejat?

Het begin als volgt: vanmorgen moest ik voor Nine Connections in Maarssen zijn en als niet auto bezitter ga je dan met de trein. Op de fiets naar het Centraal Station. Mijn fiets heb ik in de ‘fietsflat’ gezet. Op slot in een rek. Zoals het ‘hoort’. Want, ja ik woon in de stad en erger mij soms ook aan rondslingerende fietsen. Dit was rond 9:00.

Toen ik om 13:00 terug kwam was tot mijn verbazing en drie keer heen en weer lopen mijn fiets echt weg. Het rek was voor midden op de dag ook opvallend leeg. Bij navraag bleek dat de rekken IN de fietsflat geruimd waren (daarbuiten stonden nog allemaal wrakken). Mijn fiets, die ik (waarom weet ik niet) niet aan een rek vast had gezet was ook meegenomen.

Nu kan ik dus naar f*cking weet ik veel waar om tegen betaling mijn fiets op te halen! Als ik niet betaal, krijg ik mijn eigen fiets niet terug! Ik mag een bezwaarschrift indienen..

Vraag: Heb jij iets moois dat ik in dat bezwaarschrift kan zetten?

Wat is de gemeente Amsterdam (stadsdeel centrum) in godsnaam aan het doen?

Als ze zo druk zijn met het ‘opruimen’ van fietsen? Zijn er dan niet gewoon fatsoenlijke parkeerplaatsen voor fietsen te kort?

Een gemeente (stadsdeel) die zonder waarschuwing je fiets mag onteigenen vanuit een gebied dat aangemerkt is als fiets parkeergebied? Daarbuiten je fiets tegen een hek parkeren is dus een betere optie als je je fiets wilt behouden!

Nou, ik ga zo mijn fiets maar eens ophalen bij het Fietsdepot. Het valt mij nu pas op hoe dichtbij IJmuiden eigen is ;-)

By any measure, the newspaper business is half the size today that is was seven years ago.:

The US newspaper business has lost 50% of its advertising market in the last seven years. Google Adwords has taken over a large part of that market and takes parts of other publishers as well. How and why? My educated guesses:

Taking on the big guys

Smaller advertisers (i always use my dad’s business as an example) have money to spend, but the effort needed exceeds the profit for newspapers and publishers. The sales guy has targets to stay motivated and putting the same effort into larger deals is more interesting to them.

Google Adwords gives advertisers like my dad the option to compete with the big guys, within a small budget. Impossible when it comes to pull page advertising in newspapers and/or magazines.

Google Adwords doesn’t really care when:

You cut your budget.
End your campaign halfway.
Optimize your campaign after two days.
Change ads after just 24 hours.
put more money into the same campaign.

Bottomline: Google has opened up to a market that is larger then traditional news media ever imagined. Local advertisers appear to be very lucrative as long as you have the option of shifting the responsibility into their laps. Google did that while newspapers were focussing on contracts with the big guys.

The big guys are now slowly leaving or opting for online advertising for lower CPM rates. The newspaper business has taken decades of effort to kill themselves.

The last weeks have been crazy and needless to say I haven’t done any solid workouts. The stuff I needed to do are almost done and I have more time to workout and get closer to being as fit as I was last July. Maybe a bit better too.

To get myself there a bit faster I decided to start a 30 day challenge tomorrow. 30 days without eating and drinking sugars, carbohydrates and glutes. You might miss alcohol in this. True, I will not drink alcohol besides one glass of wine or an accidental beer. Don’t want to fully torture myself here, I do triathlons recreational and want to keep seeing it as a fun thing to do.

I will keep you posted on what is happening. My guess: frustration and weightloss.

Crisis?

Unfortunately I am unable to find it now, but years ago I read a great blogpost. Written by an anonymous Economic that claimed to like economics like he did his ex-wife. With a lot of old love, fascinating misunderstanding and a pinch of hate.

As I remember he stated that mankind had created a system that was highly unstable. Why? Because it has to continue to grow in order to perform for all or most of us. Anything besides the universe is unable to do so. This causes the system to grow like a bubble and burst every once in a while. Logical no?

But there is a twist because regulations, laws and powers are involved. The create a loop in which the same people, who proof to be highly incapable on the long term, are entitled to repeat themselves. Over and over again. It might not be the exact same persons, but they are schooled, trained and experienced to keep that loop alive and make the next bubble incapable of bursting.

The generation I feel I am part of is slowly letting go of the concept economy. We are not in a crisis. We are letting go of the things we no longer want and replacing them by things we need. Things we relate to. Things we can enjoy or share with people instead of showing off.

I am fascinated by what will happen in coming years. I hope there will be less restrictive regulations for people that want to do different.

Mark Lanegan’s voice fascinates many fans. It’s deep and paved with whiskey and tobacco. Trying it at home will make your throat soar. He has been around since the late 80’s and has recorded and played with artists like The Queens Of The Stone Age, P.J. Harvey, Iso Campbell, Slash and many more.

He was a close friend to Kurt Cobain and together they played ‘Where Did You Sleep Last Night’. It was released on Mark’s first solo album “The Winding Sheets” which got out in 1992. Nirvana then played it as their last song during Nirvana’s famous MTV Unplugged New York. A performance many describe as Kurt’s musical farewell letter to the world. And maybe an ode to Mark? Who knows.

After a week of heavy partying and working at my dads business it has become a new year. No real resolutions, just crazy plans and some goals.

Doing another full distance triathlon and improve my run. Still doubting which one. Maybe registering for the Norseman triathlon.
Figuring out if it is possible to do the Race Across America in 2014. 4810 kilometers in 6 days with a team of 4 riders or alone in ±11 days. Crazy? I think so..
Work hard (and smart) at @nineconnections and improve the way journalists work. Check it out if you are a journalist or media professional!

Most of all it is just a bunch of new days waiting to be lived and I am looking forward to it :-)
